Jun Hu, Ph.D., L.Ac. is a California-licensed acupuncturist, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) educator, researcher, and international advocate for TCM, with nearly four decades of clinical, academic, and professional experience in China and the United States.
Dr. Hu received her Bachelor of Medicine from Yunnan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Acupuncture from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She began her professional career in China as a resident physician and went on to serve as an attending physician, associate professor, professor, and doctoral advisor at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She also served as Deputy Director of Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.
Since 2005, Dr. Hu has been a California-licensed acupuncturist, bringing her extensive clinical and academic experience in Chinese medicine to the United States. She has also served as a Professor at Five Branches University in California.
Professional Leadership
Dr. Hu has held leadership positions in major acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine organizations in the United States and internationally. She currently serves as Vice President of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS).
Her leadership with the American Association of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture (AACMA) spans nearly a decade, serving successively as Vice President (2015–2019), President (2019–2023), and Honorary President (2023–Present).
She has also served as Vice President of the California Certified Acupuncturists Association.
Research and Education
Dr. Hu’s academic and research interests include acupuncture for endocrine disorders, immunological mechanisms of acupuncture, integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in addiction treatment.
Her research has included clinical studies of Graves’ disease and addiction treatment, and she has published more than 20 peer-reviewed articles as well as books and monographs.
Acupuncture Advocacy and International Development
Throughout her career in the United States, Dr. Hu has participated in the legal and professional development of acupuncture in the United States, including professional advocacy, legislative and regulatory discussions, acupuncture education, and efforts to strengthen professional standards.
Her experience has given her a unique perspective on the development of acupuncture from a traditional medical practice to an increasingly recognized component of healthcare in the United States.
Acupuncture Fever
Dr. Hu is the First Executive Producer of Acupuncture Fever, an English-language documentary exploring the history and legalization of acupuncture in California and the United States.
The documentary reflects her long-standing interest in preserving the history of acupuncture in America and sharing the story of Traditional Chinese Medicine with a broader international audience.

From her early clinical and academic career in China to nearly two decades of practice, education, professional leadership, and advocacy in the United States, Dr. Hu has devoted her career to the practice, teaching, development, and international communication of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.
